Moratorium Now!
Missourians to Abolish the Death Penalty has unleashed a campaign for a moratorium on the death penalty in Missouri and a study commission to investigate problems in Missouri's death penalty system.Does this mean we only want a moratorium, so problems can be fixed and a more just death penalty can result? • What does this campaign consist of? • What good does a resolution do? • You can help!
Does this mean we only want a moratorium, so problems can be fixed and a more just death penalty can result?
Not at all. We firmly believe that there is no way all the problems can be identified and fixed; we want it abolished. But many people who don't oppose the death penalty are willing to support a moratorium in the hopes of greater fairness and justice.
What does this campaign consist of?
To help lead the state towards a moratorium, we are asking for passage of a resolution for a moratorium on the death penalty in any church, organization, political entity willing to do so.
What good does a resolution do?
Alone, one resolution is not very powerful. But the more resolutions passed by churches, unions, clubs, synagogues, mosques, city councils—any body willing to consider and pass a resolution—the stronger the message. See the Quixote Center's Equal Justice USA to see a list of Missouri signers.
You can help!
Have your town council/business/place of worship/union/social club pass a resolution for a moratorium.
